The Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles met in Philly on Monday Night Football for a game that could go a long way in deciding the respective team's playoff hopes.
The Eagles (3-4) came into the game favored by a comfortable 8 points (according to USA Today) over the Bears after dominating the Dallas Cowboys the previous week. The Bears (4-3) came off a bye week after playing their previous game across the Atlantic in London.
The Bears started off the game beautifully with a 12 play, 79 yard drive, capped off by a 5 yard TD pass from Jay Cutler to Matt Spaeth. After exchanging possession with each other after stalled drives, the Eagles took the ball down to the Bears' 18 before QB Michael Vick was intercepted by FS Major Wright.
The Bears capitalized off this turnover with a 51 yard FG by K Robbie Gould, which gave the Bears a 10-0 lead. The Bears would suffer a scary moment though during the middle of the second quarter when their star DE Julius Peppers went down with a left knee injury, the same knee he injured during the MNF football game 4 weeks back with the Lions.
The Eagles would respond to the Bears FG with one of their own after a 11 play, 53 yard drive. Eagles K Alex Henery made the 47 yard FG by the narrowest of margins as it went off the upright and in. The Bears did receive goods new during that drive as Julius Peppers was able to return to the game.
The Bears good luck wouldn't last long after Eagles rookie LB Brian Rolle forced a Matt Forte fumble which was also returned by Rolle for an Eagles TD.
The Bears following drive would come up short and were forced to punt. However, Eagles WR DeSean Jackson fumbled the ensuing punt, with the Bears recovering and taking over at the PHI 11. The Bears would capitalize on the Eagles error with a 2 yard TD run by RB Marion Barber. The Bears TD almost never happened but a roughing the passer penalty was called on Eagles DE Jason Babin which extended the Bears drive.
The first half would come to a close with the Bears leading the Eagles 17-10.
